THE ROLE OF THE SURVEY MANAGER:

Cowan Group Engineering (CGE) is seeking a Professional Land Survey Manager with a valid/active State of Oklahoma Professional Land Surveyor’s license with exceptional project management skills to oversee a variety of public projects in the State of Oklahoma. We are looking for a team-oriented leader who fosters a positive work atmosphere, is a collaborative partner and has a history of getting projects accomplished on-time and on-budget.

This position reports directly to a Department Manager and will:

  • Utilize your expertise as a Professional Land Surveyor to assist the team in preparing construction staking, topographic, boundary, ALTA/NSPS Land Title, and ODOT Surveys.
  • Play a key role in processing survey data and overseeing drawing production to ensure accurate and timely project deliverables.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to participate in a wide range of projects, contributing to survey and engineering efforts across different disciplines.
  • Establish a strong foundation for CGE projects by fulfilling both office-based and field-based duties as required.
  • Maintain a high standard of quality, accuracy, and professionalism in all survey-related activities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership and direction to the survey team, fostering a positive work environment and promoting teamwork.
  • Take full ownership of survey projects, starting from scoping and cost estimation through to final review and reporting. Ensure that projects are well-defined, executed efficiently, and meet client requirements.
  • Direct and coordinate the activities of production staff involved in data collection and processing. Oversee their work to ensure timely and accurate production of deliverables.
  • Provide technical support at various stages of the survey process, including questionnaire adaptation, field staff training, fieldwork monitoring, report writing, and dissemination of survey findings. Ensure that all technical aspects of the survey are executed effectively.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients. Act as a primary point of contact, addressing client needs, providing updates, and ensuring client satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare project schedules, assign tasks to team members, and review completed work to ensure quality and adherence to project requirements.
  • Collaborate with the clients during the sales cycle. Gather project requirements, contribute to the development of delivery approaches, and assist in preparing project proposals.
  • Manage the financial aspects of projects, including budgeting, cost tracking, and resource allocation, to ensure projects remain within established financial parameters.
  • Monitor project progress and address any issues or challenges that may arise during the project lifecycle.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A valid and active State of Oklahoma Professional Land Surveyor's license.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Geography, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
  • Proven experience in survey project management, with a track record of successfully leading survey initiatives from start to finish.
  • Strong knowledge of survey methodologies, techniques, and equipment.
  • Excellent project management skills, including scoping, budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Proficiency in technical aspects of survey work, including data collection, processing, and reporting.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for client interactions and team coordination.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to delivering high-quality and accurate survey results.
  • Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and priorities.
  • Familiarity with survey software and tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with state plane coordinates systems and geodetic calculations.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microstation.
  • Experience with GNSS, Total Station (robotic or conventional), levels and data collector systems.
  • A valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to travel out of town when required.
